Hither Green

Client: Network Rail

Duration: 25th July – 2nd August 2020

Location: Sidcup, Grove Park & Bromley North Lines

Project Overview:

The previous signalling system controlling the movement of trains through Hither Green had become difficult to maintain resulting in faults and passenger delays. Following two years of continuous work, a more reliable signalling system has come into use.

TXM Solution:

TXM Plant was involved in delivering the Hither Green Commissioning works. The lifting and moving of old assets carried complexities and risks involving safety.

Weather conditions were poor, however, TMX’s Plant Operators Scheme (POS) service team worked above and beyond in their dedication to safety, removing the redundant assets with care, with strict adherence to PPE requirements in line with COVID-19, ensuring a safer railway for all staff and suppliers.

Results:

TXM’s POS team supported works in the safe planning, control and use of on-track plant (OTP). The new signalling system has resulted in fewer faults and delays allowing for an improved passenger journey. Further improvements included the replacement of 254 axle counters, power supply upgrades, and signalling improvements to provide turnback opportunities for trains.  Martin Chatfield, Network Rail Project Director, commented, “Thank you to you and your team for your tireless efforts and contribution towards delivering the Hither Green Commissioning. It is also worth noting that the weather conditions weren’t ideal, but this didn’t hinder focus on the task and the complexity of the recoveries task is not to be underestimated as previous experience has shown.”
